How it works, and the rules
What this site is
A public place to report misconduct by police and public officials in Jamaica. It helps people be heard and helps patterns show up. It works alongside INDECOM and the Integrity Commission and does not replace them. For a formal complaint about police abuse, contact INDECOM directly. Other places to complain.
What every report is
Every report is an allegation. The person is named, and the report always shows its verification status next to it.
- Under review
- Passed a basic screen. Nothing more is claimed. Does not count toward any ranking.
- Unverified
- Published, not yet backed up. Does not count toward any ranking.
- Corroborated
- Has evidence, two or more independent confirmations, or matches a public record such as a court case, an INDECOM finding or a news report.
- Escalated
- Passed to INDECOM or the Integrity Commission. Their status shows on the report.
- Disputed or withdrawn
- The person named disputes it, or the reporter took it back. Their response is shown. A report found to be false is removed.
What we check
- Every report is screened for spam, threats, abusive language and duplicates. Flagged reports wait for a person to read them.
- Reports appear once they have passed our check. Anything the check flags is read by a moderator first.
- Only the month, year and community are shown, never the exact place or day.
- Moderators check evidence and keep a log of everything they do.
Backing a report up, and how people are ranked
- Anyone can say “I saw this too” or “This happened to me as well”. Each one is checked like a report.
- Only corroborated reports count in a person's rank.
- Thumbs up and down can nudge a rank by at most 20%. Popularity alone never puts anyone at the top. Read the formula.
Right of reply, corrections and appeals
- Anyone named can send a response. It is shown next to the report.
- If a report is wrong, say so. A valid complaint is acted on quickly, and a false report is removed.
- Reporters can appeal a moderator decision.
Protecting people who report
- Anonymous reports need no account. We do not store your name or contact, and photos have their location and device details removed.
- Your IP address is not saved with your report.
- Only report what you saw or experienced. Do not post rumours, and do not post private information about anyone.
What does not belong here
Reports about private individuals or private companies, and anything that was not an action taken in a public role. Threats and abuse are removed.
